A Person Focused on People and the Human Condition
I have always been fascinated by our human condition: by our collective wiring as well as individual uniqueness, by our capacity for great joy as well as profound suffering. It is this interest that lead me to major in Eastern Religion as an undergraduate at Columbia years ago, which fueled my choice to become a school teacher in NYC and to focus on understanding and uncovering hidden potential in students within “Special Education” tracts, and it is this interest and experience which has lead me to work with individuals of different types, backgrounds and challenges as a trained psychotherapist.
My own therapeutic style is rooted in classical analytic frameworks, and informed by such things as modern trauma research and brain science, studies in Buddhism and non-western insight traditions, as well as holistic wellness practices. I believe in the power of insight as well as in healing emotional experience. I believe our modern world provides both unprecedented opportunities as well as new challenges to personal, physical and social health. I also believe that the very things we struggle with and suffer from can also the very clues to our own happiness, freedom and joy, if only we change the way we relate to and experience them. This last fact is what continues to amaze me about human experience. It is why I work well with a range of different people in my practice, and why I continue to be inspired by each individual I encounter on their pathway to personal healing and growth.
